METROPOLIS at Mass MoCA




Adam drove me and Andrew M. up to North Adams (aka middle of nowhere, Mass) on Friday and we went through the museum before seeing this:


Even though we were disappointed to be met with a three-man ensemble, rather than the orchestra we had expected, the ensemble turned out to be pretty incredible. Chimes, gongs, drums, and a synthesizer... okay at least that's what I think there was, with my embarassingly limited musical knowledge. Seeing the movie on a large screen, with all the restored bits, was pretty exciting in itself. It did go on pretty long, though.

I was pretty excited to see the huge Sol LeWitt retrospective at the museum:


Three floors, starting with oldest to most recent, from bottom to top. It was like walking through a maze or wonderland of LeWitt walls, pretty incredible. There were at least two videos describing the process and interviewing the artists, and it was really nostalgic to see Tak and John on the screen.

Especially nostalgic were the scribble drawings like this one, below:
